Update 8/9/2005: We are
leaving for Nepal 12th October from Zürich. Things are shaping really well.
1. We have an addition to our
climbing team. One of the managing director of Ama-foundation (Dorjee Sherpa)
is going to climb with us both mountains. He has taken special holidays from
his employee just to be with us. That is fantastic! He was born in Surke
Village near Lukla in Nepal and his younger sister, Passang Lhamu was the
first Nepali woman to climb Mt. Everest in 1993. Dorjee now works for the Blum
Capital Partners. He was on top of Mt. Cotopaxi and Mt. Chimbroza in Ecuador
last year. He attempted Mt. Huasacaran, 23,230 feet, in Peru this year but had
to turn around due to bad weather conditions.
A welcome
event is being organised from the amaghar (the school sponsored by the ama-foundation)
for us in Kathmandu the 13.10! We are so excited about this!! Umberto
Michelucci
Background:
Welcome to the 6k Expedition!
What is 6k Expedition? It is a climbing expedition in the Himalayan region,
with the goal of helping the underprivileged children in Nepal.
Our expedition aims to reach two 6000m summits in 6 days:
Lobuje Est (6119m, the most technically demanding of the trekking peaks) and
Imja Tse (6189m, the highest of the trekking peaks).
Mission Statement:
Our goal is to help improving the education, health and living condition of
helpless, poor and orphaned children in Nepal.
We believe that all the children should have an opportunity
for a house, food and most of all an education. Education is, in fact, the key
to break the cycle of poverty and have a chance for a self-sufficient life and
a better future.
The collected money will be entirely devoted to charity. No
part of it will be kept by the expedition members! We will work with the
Ama-Foundation, a local non-profit
organisation that is based in Nepal and in the United States. Here is their
