Update:
Dhaulagiri is getting deserted
All three Poles:
Sylwia, Ryszard, and Grzegorz have returned to the base camp at the foot of
Dhaulagiri.
"That’s the end, I
believe that we have no chance, our team is too exhausted.” - Ryszard wrote in
his last text message – late at night local time.
Two Russians, who
were forced to turn back 100m below the summit, are already on their way to
Kathmandu. Up at the mountain, there are only three Czech climbers trying their
luck, but the weather is really bad and their chances are slim. In the base
camp, there is still the Ecuadorian – Ivan Vallejo (who has ascended 12
eightthousanders) with one Sherpa. Ivan has acclimatised on Cho Oyu. He has been
at the base for a couple of days. Last year, he failed to climb Dhaulagiri. It
is still unknown, whether he is going to try a almost solo attack. Beside these,
there are no climbers at the base camp.
Ryszard promised a
longer report for tomorrow – then we will probably find out when the Poles are
going to leave the base and start their return journey to the country
