In Jan 2004, an international
group of disabled mountaineers from Singapore, Scotland, England and Australia
will make an ascent of the northern glaciers of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Team members Paul Pritchard,
a well-known, award-winning author and mountaineer; and Peter Steane will be
in Singapore for one day only, en route to the expedition in Tanzania.
They are joined by one of
Asia’s most prolific mountaineers, David Lim and Jamie Andrew, a quadruple
amputee, in an 18-day expedition from Jan 7 – 24.
The Voltaren Kilimanjaro
Challenge has taken three years to organise. and aims to draw attention to
the abilities of disabled people, as well as to assist a disability –related
charity. Kilimanjaro, at 5895m, is the highest summit of Africa and lies in
Tanzania.
Its permanent, snow-capped
summit is a draw for climbers throughout the world. Less than 1% of those
attempting it will go by the route the team has chosen.
Meet these extraordinary men,
each with quite a tale to tell and the find out more about the Voltaren
Kilimanjaro Challenge 2004.
The Voltaren Kilimanjaro
Challenge chief sponsors are Novartis OTC ( Asia Pacific ), and Reuters
