Update 3/8/2004:
We have now left
Kathmandu, which is a lovely city, but very dirty so we
were happy to leave by bus on Saturday morning. An 8
hour drive to the Langtang region. Our GPS tells us in
those 8 hours we only got 35 km away from Kathmandu.
But fair enough, we are in the
mountains and ready to start the acclimatization
process.....
Update More Pictures
Update3: After
finishing our trek in Langtang we headed back to Kathmandu. There we made our
final preparations for our departure to Cho Oyu base camp.
Update4:
After a good night sleep in a
colorful Tingri we only needed a two hour drive to Old
Chinese Base Camp 4900 m. From here our transportation
will be on foot!
Update 5:
We are now in Intermediate
Camp at 5350 m. We are having 2 problems:
non-cooperating yaks and mountain sickness. It is
unclear when we will reach basecamp (about 4 hours
climbing from here).
Update 6:
We have finally arrived in Cho
Oyu basecamp! We are happy to be here, although part of
our equipment is still in Old Chinese Basecamp (2 days
walk from here). We partly solved the yak issue. We hope
to welcome the last yak shift tomorrow (Thursday).
