expedition 2004: The Team
Joost Schreve (29) is a highly
experienced climber and skier. In 2003 he climbed Mera Peak (6462) in
Nepal and made an unique and spectacular ski descent from the summit.
Joost has been climbing since he was 14 years old and has successfully
pursued several climbing courses of the Royal Dutch Alpine Club (KNKBV).
Joost climbed many different mixed Alpine routes including the Lenzspitze
north face. He was head instructor of the Mountain Camp (HGK), a climbing
course for Dutch teenagers in the Alps, for five consecutive years. In
2002 he participated in the ski mountaineering instructors course of the
KNKBV. During his free time Joost runs marathons (New York and Paris),
plays squash and sails on his catamaran.
In 2001 Joost received his Master of Science degree from Delft University
of Technology. During his studies Joost worked at Renault in Paris and at
an internet company in Silicon Valley. From June 2001 until December 2003
he worked at Fredhopper, an internet software company in Amsterdam.
Currently Joost focuses 24 hours a day on the Ski8000 expedition. After
returning from the expedition Joost will pursue an international MBA.
(23) is ski expert and experienced climber. In 2003 he participated in a
ski expedition to Nepal where he reached the summit of Island Peak (6189
m). At only seventeen years old, Greg climbed Mont Blanc, after which
several giants followed. In 2001 he became ski mountaineering instructor
of th Royal Dutch Alpine Club and was in charge of several courses. In
1990 Greg was 6th in his category at the world championships triathlon in
Dallas. Greg likes running, cycling, fitness and squash to stay fit.
Greg holds a Master of Science degree in applied Physics
from Delft University of Technology. Greg works at OC&C Strategy
Consultants in Rotterdam. During his studies he did internships at
investment bank Goldman Sachs in London and Shell in Rijswijk. After the
expedition Greg will return to OC&C Strategy Consultants.
(29) supports the team as medical doctor. Herman is specialized in
tropical medicine and has extended experience in several parts of the
world including Papua New Guinee. Besides his professional expertise
Herman has more than 10 years of skiing and climbing experience. He
climbed several high mountains in the Alpes and in 2002 he reached the
summit of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain (5895 m).
