Summit bid
itinerary
Writes
Radek Jaros of the HI-TEC V-LITE Nanga Parbat - K2 Expedition, who summited
Nanga on June 28:
"This is
how we moved along the Diamir Face of Nanga Parbat during our summit bid:
"June 24:
BC - C2; change of altitude --1900m, 10 hrs.
June 25:
C2 - C3, 800m; 12 hrs plus 2hrs of digging a platform and setting a tent.
June 26:
C3 - C2; 800m; 3 hrs.
June 27:
C2 - C4; 1,200m; 10 hrs.
June 28:
C4 - summit - C4; 1000m up, 9 hrs, 1000m down, 4 hrs.
June 29:
C4 - BC; 3000m; 8hrs."
Update: Radek and Petr were
on the way to Skardu. They will have to make a decision when to continue --
their bodies long for a few days of a good rest at Skardu. On the other hand,
it will is still take them good 7-8 days from Skardu to the K2 BC (well known
walk to them, made it twice in the past).

a description of what we see
on the photo from Kinshofer Wall: Radek writes: "Kinshoffer Wall on June 24,
when we climbed it for the third time. Even in this beautiful weather we face
snow falling from above. When we climbed it last time, we were alone, there
were no fixed ropes on the wall and a thunder storm was raging all around.
Since then, other expeditions secured the wall with fixed ropes."
Radek Jaros and Petr "Miska"
Masek climbed the Kinshofer Wall on June 2 and established C2 above it. next
time they climbed it on June 11 with the intention to continue and to set C3,
but the thunder storm forced them down from C2 again. In the following days, a
much needed rest after a rescue operation on the mountain and bad weather kept
them down. They launched their summit bid on June 24. Radek reached the summit
on June 28, after a 9-hour climb from C4. Petr decided to turn back just 250m
below the summit.
Currently, Radek and Petr are
resting at Skardu before they set to walk to Concordia and attempt K2. Both
have been to K2 twice before. In 2001 they climbed the SSE/Scott/Cesen Ridge
and reached the 8000m, but a storm forced them down. In 2003, as a trion with
Martin Minarik, they attempted a double-header Broad Peak and K2. They reached
the summit of Broad Peak on July 18, 2003, all the three reached the summit of
Broad peak and moved to K2. Unlike in 2001, their plan was to climb Abruzzi.
Their collaboration with the Kazakh Nanga-Broad Peak-K2 expedition and all
their attempts failed due to bad weather. No one summited K2 in the 2003
season.
