Dear EverestNews.com, We held a
memorial ceremony in basecamp for Mike's passing. In this photos, our Sherpas
are conducting a Buddhist Puja, or prayer ceremony, led by our lama and staff
member, Kanuri Sherpa. On he left of center, in the photo, the memorial plaque
made by Mark Merwin is visible. We plan to carry the plaque to the top of Dugla
Hill, and build a chorten, where Mike's memorial will join the community of
the many climbers who have died on Everest and other Khumbu mountains.
After the buddhist prayer
ceremony, we climbed atop the helicopter pad in basecamp, and lit a bonfire,
and the members and sherpas stood around the fire and recollected memories of
their time with Mike, and Clay Clarke recited the Lord's prayer, Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be
Done....
