This is not a team dispatch but an update from the staff at EverestNews.com
We spoke with Dan Mazur last weekend by
phone. Dan was sad. It has been a tough year so far for Dan. Another organizer
of Expeditions said to us this week, "Dan has taken a lot of people into the
hills; he has lost a few, but not many considering how many he has taken over
the years. We all lose a few. I know Dan, he must be sad."
Dan must feel like quitting, but
Mike O'Brien would have not wanted that. He would have wanted the
expedition to continue and for the others to Summit. We spoke with Mike
several times over the several months before he went to Everest. Mike was a
nice guy and a good climber. Mike knew the risks. He did not want to be hauled
up the mountain like some are, he want to climb Everest! Great climbers have
died on Everest, recall Babu Sherpa... Mike was buried yesterday. May he rest
in peace in heaven.
Today Dan got confirmation of some good
news. No broken bones, and just some bed rest needed for the Sherpa hurt in
the
Avalanche!. "Durge, we informed
his family and his family came to teaching hospital and once helicopter arrived we
took him in Teaching Hospital and they checked all blood, urine, X ray, BP.
every thing and Doctor from Teaching Hospital told us that everything is
normal no problem. Just Durge need bed rest.", the e-mail from
Kathmandu. All others fine...
