Pumori update (second update for today): 4:00 pm 25 March:

Dennis and Richard and Jonas are in camp 1, heading down to ABC.

The rest of the team are carrying Lakpa Chiri and Tenzing down to ABC now. The rescuers seem to be making slow but steady progress.

It seems everyone may stay in ABC tonight and come down to Basecamp tomorrow. The injured people seem to be in stable condition and everyone else seems ok.

The weather is still holding; that's very good for the rescue effort.

We will update you with more news as soon as possible.

Pumori update, 25 march, 2006: Difficult Rescue

Pumori update: 1:00 am 25 March: Dennis and Richard and Jonas are in camp 2. There is something wrong with Dennis' ankle. He cannot walk on it, but apparently he is mobile and he can crawl. The three plan to descend at first light.

The bulk of the team are in camp 1. It took 14 hours to bring the two injured sherpas down. Everyone is very tired and resting for tomorrow's descent to basecamp.

Lakpa Chiri Sherpa is unable to walk, with bad injuries to both legs.

Tenzing Sherpa is also unable to walk with bad injuries to his hip and

shoulder.

Mikael and Tony and Amanda are in basecamp.

Besides the information mentioned above about the three climbers: Dennis, Lakpa Chiri, and Tenzing, everyone else is ok.

This is a very difficult rescue.

Fortunately the weather is good with no wind and clear skies.

Previous Update: Dear EverestNews.com, I have just received worrisome news that there has been an accident on Friday, 24 March between camp 2 (6500 metres) and the summit of Pumori (7216 metres).

The accident apparently involved three people who were roped together. Apparently, there was a crevasse and someone may have slipped, pulling the others in. I am very sorry about the vagueness of this information, but will tell you more as soon as we learn it.

Three people were injured:

They are, in alphabetical order:

Dennis Jönsson from Uppsala, Sweden;

Lakpa Chiri Sherpa from Kurima, Nepal;

Tenzing Sherpa from Okhladunga, Nepal.

According to reports, Dennis has an injured ankle, Lakpa Chiri an injured leg, and Tenzing an injured shoulder and hip.

All of the other team members are ok.

Our team is transporting the injured parties down to Camp 1 now.

We would like to express our concern for the injured people, our team members who are helping to rescue them, and for those family members, loved ones, and colleagues of those on the mountain.
