Namba’s hobby was mountaineering and her summit accomplishments were many including:  Kilimanjaro New Year’s Day 1982; Aconcagua New Year’s Day 1984; Denali July 1, 1985; Elbrus August 1, 1992; Vinson Massif December 29, 1993; Carstensz Pyramid November 12, 1994.

In late April of 1996, Namba signed on with Adventure Consultants, Rob Hall’s guiding company, and began acclimatization for Mount Everest.  After a sudden storm hit Everest and a whiteout prevented the climbers from reaching their tents, nine climbers died, including Yasuko Namba and Rob Hall.  On May 10, 1996, Namba froze to death on the South Col just a few hundred yards from safety.
