Update 4/11/2005: They
are now at Base Camp on the the north side. They plan to take the Northeast
Ridge Route. Below is a short Bio on Greg, Dan and the BGE team.
BGE Bios: Greg Vadasdi and Dan
Protz are 98 Graduates of Dartmouth College (The Big Green) where they rowed
on the heavyweight crew team. They have climbed together for the past 5 years
and have summitted several peaks over 10,000 feet. The highest was Denali,
Alaska (20,320') followed by Mt. Elbrus, Russia (18,510'). In March they
successfully completed the New Zealand Ironman and climbed in New Zealand's
south island.
Greg (28) was born in Budapest. He and his family lived there and in
Sao Paulo Brazil before moving to New York City. Greg started climbing at
13, he has climbed extensively and is an accomplished technical climber. His
highest summit is Ama Dablam, Nepal (22,488') in 2004. He enjoys outdoor
athletics and has completed 7 Ironman competitions. Since graduating from
Dartmouth he has been working in investment banking and private equity.
Dan (28) was born and raised in Manitowoc, WI. He started climbing in 1995 on
a Nols trip to British Columbia. After Dartmouth he rowed for the U.S.
National Team and was a member of the winning coxed four at the 1999 World
Championships in Canada. Since graduation Dan has run a rowing nonprofit and
worked in the hedge fund industry. He plans to attend the Stanford Graduate
School of Business this fall.
Dan and Greg have contracted with Asian Trekking for two Sherpas, a cook and
helper to join the expedition team. Asian Trekking has provided support to
Himalayan climbers for over 20 years and has taken 130 expeditions to Everest.
They are known for their experienced high altitude Sherpas and well trained
support staff. The team's Sherpas are Ang Mingma Sherpa (37) and Mingma Dorjee
Sherpa (38). Both Sherpas have successfully summited Everest via the
Northeast ridge. Saila Tamang (41) is the cook and Krishna Sunwar (35) is the
helper.
