Esplugues al Everest Expedition
has four members, and along with them there is another one who, in the name of
his city Sant Boi, will make the team of the expedition. Xavier Arias, chief
of the expedition, has climbed Shishapangma in 2002, and Dhaulagiri in 2004.
Annapurna in 2000 and Cho Oyu in 1998 (both with no summit), as well as
multiple expeditions in the Andes, Caucaso... Merce Vidal, the woman in the
group, has been to Cho Oyu (7400 m), Lenin Peak and other expeditions in the
Andes. Albert Carbonell has been to Cho Oyu and expeditions in the Andes. Oriol
Franco, with no experience in the Himalayas, will be the image and
communication technician of the expedition.
These four are members of
Esplugues al Everest, an expedition organized by GELADE of Esplugues de
Llobregat.
Agusti Torrent has been to
Dhaulagiri 2004 (7400 m), Aconcagua 1994, Mt. Cock 1996 and other expeditions
in the Andes, Baffin and Africa (Rwenzory and Atlas). He is a member of
Centre Excursionista San Boi, Sant Boi molt Amunt! (Sant Boi very high, in
English).
The expedition will leave
Barcelona on March 30, once in Katmandu they plan to do an acclimatization
trekking in Nepal (Everest Base Camp and Island Peak). Then they will fly to
Lhasa in the middle of April and then go to Base Camp around April 24. The
expedition will take the North ridge route and they will install three high
altitude camps. The use of oxygen is only planed from the third camp and
above, in case of need. It is planed to have the help of two high altitude
Sherpas. The expedition will return to Barcelona by the end of May. The
expedition wants their ascent to honor the first Catalan expedition who
climbed Everest by this same route in 1985. Attached, a picture of Agusti
Torrents and Xavier Arias in Dhaulagiri 2004.
