Update: The newspaper sources are reporting two Russians
trekkers to Everest base camp were hurt when their vehicle hit a landmine on the Arniko
highway. The Newspaper sources vary considerably with details. Our sources in
Nepal tell us "The official newspaper here only lists Nepali casualties by
name and goes on to state that 12 others were taken to the hospital, but does
not specifically mention anything about non-Nepali ....", which is not
surprising. It is reported the one Russian has been released and the other is
still in the hospital.
However, other sources in Nepal report the Russian in the
hospital is reportedly
Kaymachnirkow. He is in the Birendra Hospital in Chhauni. It is assumed the
Maoists planted the landmine. However, many of
these newspapers gets the details wrong... So stay tuned...
Kaymachnirkow was a member of
Alexander Abramov's Russian
Everest Team in 2003. "Sergey
Kaymachnikov " is listed as a member of his team this year...
We e-mailed the team yesterday, but we had
not gotten a reply. Part of the team is already reported at base camp.
