Update: The mountain dictates
our plans. The night to Sunday, there was heavy snow and an ascent became more
and more unreal. I (Olaf) awaked several times at night and hoped that it will
stop snowing. But when Chengba started his activities in the kitchen, it does
not. Our basecamp under a thick layer of snow.
One problem is that Jana get
stuck in camp 1 and we have no radio contact to her yet. But the camp is a
good shelter and there is no reason to cause concern. Moreover, she is not
alone there. Kami Shingi has spent the night there as well and he is a very
experienced sherpa. But this is not the only problem. Thomas got seriously
sick. Yesterday, he decided not to ascend tomorrow because he wanted to cure
an upcoming influenza. But this morning he felt even worse, and he looked so.
At the moment we control his
body temperature and dig into our medicine kit. It is silly that just in the
moment when we have a sick person in the basecamp, Jana, our medical doctor,
is at camp 1 and we cannot talk to her. Therefore, I will try to do her job
(remark from the webmaster: Olaf is veterinary surgeon).
