©EverestNews.com

The Sant Cugat a l'Everest 2006 expedition the objective of getting to the summit, this expedition will try get to the top the oldest and youngest Spanish persons without oxygen. With this one, there are three Catalan expeditions who will attempt to climb Everest next spring.

Vicenç Sànchez was there representing the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC or the Federation of Excursion Entities of Catalunya).  There were also the expedition members and Narcís Catanyer, the president of the entity.  During the presentation details of the expedition were presented.

They want to take the oldest person to the summit, Antoni Pifarré, 67, and the youngest, Martí Mañosas, 21, of Spain.

The chosen route is the normal North Col via Tibet.  This was the route of the first Chinese climb in 1960.  Initially they had chosen the Nepalese route, but the high price and the unstable political situation in Nepal made some expeditions chose the Chinese route.

The members of the expedition are: Xavi Aymar, Joan Antoni Barril, Jordi Bosch, Josep M. Casajuana, Joan Castanyer

Some of them have experience in the Andes and the Himalayas.

The other Catalan expeditions to Everest next spring are Comarques Girones and Terres de l Ebre
