Everest 2006: N. Ireland and England Everest 2006 Expedition

Dispatches

©EverestNews.com

In spring 2006 a team of Six climbers from N. Ireland and England will attempt to climb Mount Everest 8848m, the highest mountain in the world. The climbers will climb via the NE Ridge of Everest, this route constitutes a steep and technically demanding route, with climbers camping at an altitude of 8300m before climbing the difficult second step and then reaching the summit ridge, this being an exposed ridge traverse at over 28,000ft, before finally standing on the summit.

The climbers will face all the rigours of high wind, high altitude and low temperatures, so this will be no light achievement for such a small team. The expedition will take place in the 50th anniversary year of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the team hope to commerate this event by reaching the summit. The climbers include

6 summit climbers going, 4 for Northern Ireland and 2 from England, the expedition will commerate the 50th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, as Raymond Hassard and I are both Gold award holders we hope to carry a flag to the summit to mark the event.

They are going to climb the normal North Col route and we shall use Bikrum Pandley as our trekking Agency, Raymond's wife Kate shall be our base camp manager, and they will bring 3 other North Col climbers.

Climbers: Jon Salter, Neil Elliott, Raymond Hassard, Fergal Corrigan, Steve Hodge, Geoffrey Weir...
