On 15th of May 2006, Mr. Sonam Bhote not only scaled the top of the Mt. Everest
for the first time in his life but he also launched the English Poetry Book
titled, “BARDS’ SKETCHES” written by Mr. Wangdi Gyalpo (Head of English
Department, Shuvatara International School, Lalitpur, Kathmandu) and Mr. Sonam Bhote. With the launch of the poetry book
titled, “BARDS’ SKETCHES” on top of the world, it became the first ever
English Poetry book launched on top of the world, Mt. Everest in the world
history that to by Non-English.
Mr. Sonam Bhote was born in a small hamlet called ‘Sandakphu’ Nepal. His
writings are published in different websites. Mr. Wangdi Gyalpo was born in a
cozy environment of Darjeeling. In his
credit he has many international certificates. Some of his poetry reached as
the finalist in the International Open Poetry Competition, conducted by
International Library of Poetry, Washington D.C. He was nominated as a poet
of the year and awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Poetry by the
International Library of Poetry, Washington D.C. He was selected as author
of the month by Association of Young Journalist and Writer, New York. His
writings are found in different international poetry portals.
The fascinating thing about both of them is that, though born in
different places, time brought them together. Both of them studied in
Central School for Tibetans Darjeeling, India. They are not only childhood
friends but also cousins. They came to Kathmandu in almost at the same time
and started working in their respective field.
The main intention behind launching our book on top of the World is to
prove to the world that, Sherpas and Tibetans who are basically regarded as
Mountaineer and High Altitude Porter that, besides climbing they also
possess caliber in literature. Further, they added that, they want to arouse
the awareness among Sherpas and Tibetans about the poetry.
