Report from Base Camp
Manager, Roger Coffey - 5/8/06: Doug, Will, and Jeff are in Camp II and will
rest for the day under beautiful sunshine. They arrived yesterday, after the
long straight run from Base Camp to Camp II - for another acclimatization
climb. Tomorrow, they will move up to Camp III - and most likely stay there
one night. Following final acclimatization, they will return to Base Camp and
enjoy a well deserved rest. Upon their return to Base Camp, they will begin
the waiting process for a summit push, tentatively scheduled for May 11- 15.
Our Friends, MJ and Julie, are now headed to Base Camp after a successful
acclimatization at Camp III - they report feeling well. Julie says "hi" to all
her family and friends. The German duo, Dirk and Klaus on the Asian Trekking
permit also, are already well acclimatized and patiently waiting out their
days here in Base Camp with me, looking forward to a completed Camp IV - and
ropes on the upper mountain. When all of the logistics are in line, the
climbers will try and judge the weather so that a clear day becomes a summit
day! Yesterday, One of our Sherpas successfully reached Camp IV. Soon, we
should have tents pitched on the South Col and then begin the runs of food,
fuel, and oxygen supplies!
Patience, prayers, and a bit of luck is what's needed now
Talk to you soon,
Roger Coffey, TNL - Base Camp Manager
