Our expedition proceeds 8 days but we could
only came to Timika. It is our first point in the territory of Irian Jaya. It
is a small city that was build to maintain the Freeport mine, that had
enormous resources of gold. The border of mine is in 6 km from base camp of
Carstensz. This zone is stricly protected by police. On the main part of
island there is not quiet. From time to time there are armed clashes between
Papuans and the Army. Therefore other roads can be dangerous.

walking days from the base camp.
