In 1973 the Italian Expedition
Summited Everest. Another huge expedition with sixty plus members led by Guido
Monzino. Helicopters were used to shuttle equipment past the Khumbu Icefall.
Eight climbers succeed via the South Col Route, including 16 year old
Tamang of Nepal. It is later revealed that Sambhu was actually 18.

Tamang Sherpa and
Gyalchhen Sherpa also reach the Summit.
Now what you might not know: On
1 April 1973 for the first time
a Helicopter landed at 6500 meters (Camp 2) according to the family of one of
the pilots who recently died.
IEE73 helicopter assisted the
expedition formed by 53 military plus a scientific equipment of 9 persons for
the study of Human Physiology at high height, was the first at all with the
support of two Helicopters (named Italia 1 and Italia2) of the Aviazione
Leggera dell'Esercito. At the beginning it was sued only for transfer the
