Kari
Kobler |
Update June 8th, 2005:
two people reached the summit on
June 4th: Christian Eiterer (Austria apparently) at 6.30 h and Peter
Fichtner (Germany) at 10.45 h. One would assume Sherpa climbers with them, but
no news reported on the Sherpas. No more information released on
Dieter K's death.
Earlier News: The news has been released that a member of Kari Kobler's
Mount Everest 2005 Expedition has died on Mt Everest on the North side. The
climber attempted the summit but turned back at the second step, then
descended and died. No cause of death has been given.
The report: "Tragedy on Mt. Everest: Mountain Guides Kobler
& Partners have the painful duty to share with you that the Mt. Everest
Expedition led by Kari Kobler was shattered by a tragic accident. On Saturday,
June 4th, expedition member Dieter K. climbed up to 8600m and then turned
around. At 7900m Dieter K. let the leader know that he wanted to overnight at
the 7800m campsite. On the morning of the 5th, Dieter K was found dead
shortly above the campsite tent. The death of our expedition member and
friends of Dieter distressed us deeply. We send his family our deepest
regrets."
