American George Dijmarescu summits Everest for the seventh time!

Summit Picture from 2004

Update June 2nd 8.02 Eastern Time: George has summited Everest for the 7th time! Only Sherpas climbers have summited everest more; as far as western climbers, American Pete Athans is the only other climber that has summited Everest 7 times. The winds were high on the summit. It was very hard to hear George and make out what he was saying. He said the Indians were climbing, it was very hard to determine where they were. He also said climbers were an hour or two behind them heading up. He said something about 3 other climbers....

Lakpa Sherpas has summited Everest now 5 times! no other woman has summited more than 2!

He wanted to give his best to everyone and all the readers of EverestNews.com who has supported him over the years. To send George and Lakpa a message click here:

Update June 1st: George called about 6 hours ago. He was expecting to head up. He promised a Summit call today (our time!, June 2nd in China). Lakpa will go along with him and the 'spider" will go too. They plan on being fast, as this is very dangerous. They planned on leaving early. We expect others from other teams will follow.

He has summited the last 6 years in a row, once without the use of bottled oxygen, something only Sherpas can claim... Lakpa hopes to summit for the 5th time this spring season. No other woman has summited more than twice. Lakpa, like George, climbs without guides. They are again part of the Asian Trekking Group for independent climbers where all climbers are on their own.

Update May 31st, George and Lakpa did not go anywhere last night. They are going to need to head up or down, soon...

Update May 30th, 2005: High Winds at camp 2 on Everest! But George and Lakpa are doing fine, two of Lakpa brothers summited with the Russians yesterday, the one is the Sirdar of the expedition. george and Lakpa should be headed to camp 3 by the time you read this. Others up there include the second (or you could say third) part of the Russian team, The Indian "girls" as they appear to be known. The Indian army is also up there, maybe ahead of them...
