Update May 31st: Martin was at high camp last night. He was
expected to try to find a tent to take a nap with someone he knew because he
had no tent of his own and then head up! Very probably by himself. Totally
alone... No Sherpas, no oxygen. SOLO? No, because others have put in the
ropes. Martin knows what solo really means. Stay Tuned!
So what do you do after you just did
a TRUE SOLO of a 8000 meter peak? Not a SOLO where others put in the ropes and
hauled your gear up, but a TRUE SOLO where you went to the mountain yourself,
with no one else there and climbed the mountain by yourself. Broke your own
trail, and hauled your own gear, all alone. Martin on Cho Oyu, Messner on
Everest and
Jean-Christophe Lafaille
on
Shishapangma are the only 3 TRUE SOLO climbs of 8000 meter
peaks for the Nepal peaks using that definition that we can find. We need to check the
Pakistan peaks.
Martin
made the first 8000 meter summit of the season, and it was a REAL SOLO: The
report!
