Update:
May 11 Pheriche
Hello friends, family and loved ones,

Ah, what a
fine relaxing day it has been. Located at 14,143 ft Pheriche is a windy little
village nestled between Himalayan giants. We opted to spend an extra day here
when Lakpa radioed that the winds were high at base camp. Our three weather
reports confirm wind for the next several days so we are in no rush to get
back to the mountain. We are enjoying the thick oxygen rich air here and made
the best of it by spending much of the day eating and sleeping. Dave led Ron,
Tony and Nigel over the hill to Chukkung for a good view of Lhotse. On their
way back they witnessed the birth of a colt (yes it is that time of the year).
That was enough to motivate all of us to go see. As small and delicate as it
was, None of us wanted to be it's mom. Baby was at least 35 pounds and all
legs.

As you may
suppose with all the reading, card playing and knitting going on we are well
rested and ready to head back and climb. Everyone is healthy and in good
spirits and our Sherpas are busy preparing our high camp. So now we are
pondering the weather reports intently...trying to divine the right time to
move up. To soon and we risk frostbite and hypothermia, to late and we could
miss our opportunity entirely. All of our patience and experience will now be
needed to make the right decision. But that's what makes this an adventure.
So, please stay tuned for our next exciting report from Loboche.
Hugs and Kisses,
Vern Tejas
