June 2 Summit
3:00am
Amazing! The wind is low, the stars are out, and the climbing team is at the
Balcony at 8,300 meters (27,300 feet). Usually it takes the teams about seven
hours to reach the Balcony but this team is there in about five and a half
hours. So they are moving extremely well. Next they will be heading up the
Southeast Ridge toward the South Summit. Below the South Summit is some of the
steepest climbing of the night through mixed snow and rocks. They will have
about 1,400 feet to go to reach the South Summit, and then on to the true
summit. So stay with us as we track their progress up the mountain, and it
looks like we need to be ready for an early summit if everything goes well.

Dispatches
