Highlights from the 29th Updated : 30th March 2005
Highlights from the 29th. We stayed in Pherice which is
pretty desolate place. Hiking was ok only 300mtr gain from Tenbochy. All in
all pretty enjoyable but not a very spectacular day other than the 2hrs lunch
stop in the sun looking at Aba Dablam
Highlights from today the 30th. Leaving Pherice. Big height
gain today 900mts. Now sleeping higher than Mt Blanc. Dirk and I both in good
condition, eating, sleeping and trekking well. Now snowing outside and this
will be our last lodge before base camp in two days. Tomorrow is an
acclimatisation day but we make a trek anyway. I gave away a thermal top and a
pertex shirt to one of our Sherpa today as he had no warm clothing and
although 16 years old looks about 12. Food is acceptable and we are eating
about three times our normal diet
Arrived at Thengboche Updated : 28th March 2005
We arrived at Thengboche today after descending 600metres
and climbing 700m. Currently at an altitude of 3890 and the temperature is at
freezing. We were invited to the house of our sherpa leader and his wife very
kindly presented us with some silk prayer scarves. We intend visiting the
temple in Thengboche today. I feel very strong although I have a bit of a sore
throat so maybe a bit of a cold coming on!

is in his fifties, Dirk 39. "Both of us have extensive mountaineering
experience, I am in a lifetime project of the seven summits, already started
with Kilimanjaro, 20 years ago. My expeditions have been self organized

on this beaten tracks. Everest and Carstensz are still missing. Keith and me
climbed Denali together the year before. Keith works for British Telecom as
Manager Global Solutions. I am Pilot for a German Charter Company. My aim is
to support a cancer charity. This has a personal background, as my wife has
cancer herself and I am greatly involved in researching things and supporting
people with the same fate. Everest is a good opportunity to raise funds things
like this. Every support is welcome!"
