An avalanche devastates Camp I

This dawn an immense mass of snow and stones has hurried on some thirty stores that constituted Camp I

At five o’clock of this morning an avalanche, a mass of snow that is down given off and precipitated mountain with violence, has made disappear the Camp I to 6,060 meters of height. Due to this avalanche, loosening material and personal damages have taken place.

The last information that we have the wreck of six are hurt of several expeditions, of them it is in very serious state, and have begun to be evacuated mountain down by a group of sherpas. The most serious problem is to know if it can have more people buried under the snow.

Respect to Majorcan expedition whose remained in Camp II at those moments, we only must be sorry, luckily, material damages, like for example the loss of a good part of the height material of Tolo Quetglas, that he has had to return to the Base Camp.

Finally, José María Álvarez "Jopela"  decided, last thursday,  to follow the recommendations of the expedition doctor and recover from his lung complaint in Periche (3,800 m). Jopela has retired and is now  on to Periche hospital to receive a treatment for his health problems. Once he has recovered, he will head to Luckla. He will then fly to Katmandu, where he will wait for the rest of the team to return to Mallorca.
