Update 06/03/2005

74th day of the 10 Years of Brazil on Everest Expedition

Brazil on the Top of the World

Dear Friends!

With an immense relief Irivan and I have just got to our tent in camp 2 and with an immense happiness we can contact everybody who supported us to take Brazil again to the top of the world.

As most of you should know, we could achieve our dream of going back to the top of Everest and once again open the flag of Brazil. Something that had not been done since 10 years ago, when the Carioca Mozart Catao and I, on May 14, 1995, reached the top of Everest for the first time in history.

Now with my dear friend and teammate of the 10 Years of Brazil on Everest Expedition, Irivan Gustavo Burda, this dream is repeated.  On the day of June 2, 2005, exactly at 10 in the morning, when the expectations were practically lost, Irivan and I could step on the top of the highest mountain of the world again.  It was a very difficult conquest, more than two months on the mountain, but it was a dream which gave me the same emotion as 10 years ago.

The top of Everest was green and yellow for more than two hours.  We would like to note one of the most pleasant surprises of the expedition.  When we were on the top of the 8,848m ready to start going down, Vitor Negrete arrived, in other words, another Brazilian arrived to fill us with emotion and to vibrate with this beautiful conquest, it was the most unique and especial moment of all the trip, then we said goodbye on that very special place and each one descended the mountain by its side, Vitor by Tibet and Irivan and I by Nepal.

Well we are fine, tomorrow we will be in base camp and I promise more details and pictures of Everest.  We would like to tell to our family, friends and sponsors that we are healthy and we can't wait to go back to Brazil and hug everyone.

We specially thank Banco do Brasil, Try On, Wise Up, and Portal Terra who sponsored our expedition and made possible this great dream.

We would also like to congratulate Vitor Negrete's team for the success and the good decision to make the climb with oxygen, as we did.

A big hug for everybody and don't forget that Brazil, now more than ever, is on the Top of the World.

Waldemar and Irivan.
