Update 7/22:
Quino was able to call home
tonight. He and Kurt are back at basecamp. They spent the last six days at
Camp 2, working on the route to Camp 3. Everything they need for a summit
attempt is at Camp 2 now. They are eating and resting; waiting for a good
weather window. When that comes they will head to Camp 2 and try to get
further up the mountain. The stop at Camp 3 will hopefully be short and then
they'll try for the summit. They are both feeling strong and feel like they
are acclimatizing well. Antonio decided not to continue with the climb and
has headed back to Islamabad. He left basecamp several days ago.
Update:
Quino called tonight. He says
Hi to you all and sends you his best wishes.
The team is at Basecamp today
and they have established Camp 1 in the past few days. They spent a few
nights at Camp 1 to work on the route to Camp 2 and get acclimatized. The
weather has cleared and the views have been beautiful. They are all still
feeling good and excited to be there. E-mail access continues to be difficult
and satellite phone access from here on out will be more sparse so it might be
a while before we have another update
