 Black Diamond, Sabertooth
Crampon Review By the Everest GearGal
|
 |
 |
Black Diamond’s Sabertooth
crampon is one of the most versatile on the market. It performs excellent on
snow, ice and mixed terrain, traveling with ease across the glacier and up steep
ice faces. The Sabertooth is also a one-size-fits-all design, fitting virtually
any mountaineering boot and comes in both clip and step-in models. Recently
updated, the Sabertooth now performs more aggressively then ever on technical
terrain. The secondary point
configuration provides the same bomber stability in soft ice and snow, while the
primary points have been improved with new serrated teeth. This offers better
climbing performance and grip when pulling onto ledges. The horizontal
frontpoints can be counted on to penetrate even the hardest ice and will still
smear well on rock. By utilizing a new Teflon® powder coating the durability had
been enhanced and they now shed snow like never imagined. And if you go with the
new clip version you will be rewarded with newfound flexibility and a
dual-density toe strap that works on boots with out o front toe welt.
The biggest drawback with
choosing Black Diamond’s Sabertooth crampon is that with the one-size-fits-all
sizing, you will have to think up a new reason not to lone them to your buddies.
