If you are serious about staying
warm in the harshest of environments, then the Marmot CWM is the sleeping bag
you will want in your pack during the most extreme sub-zero conditions. It was
created with the mission of comfortable sleeping during expeditions in the
North and South Poles, Alaska and the Himalayas. It has been trail tested to a
temperature rating of -40°F
(-40°C) and is insulated with
900 fill goose down. Whether you are climbing Everest or making a winter summit
attempt of Mt. Washington this bags loft won’t let you down.
The stretch tricot baffles
provide the CWM with superior strength, durability and longevity. A 9-baffle
chest section runs vertically through the core of the bag maximizing down
coverage and preventing shifting and clumping that could otherwise cause cold
spots. The hood chamber consists of a 6-baffle construction and the down stays
close to the feet due to an 11-baffle foot box. The foot box is also reinforced
to withstand extra abuse from boot liners and hot water bottles. All of these
features, including a Velcro® free down filled collar work together to keep the
warm air in the bag. While the ground level side seems and down filled draft
tube keep the cold air out.
The CWM is strong, durable and
warm, but it also has a few luxury items making it stand out from the crowd.
Details such as zipper guards, “feely” draw cords to prevent nighttime fumbling,
and a Velcro®-free face muff to protect against zippers and draw cords put this
bag in a realm of its own. The only thing you’ll need to worry about on your
next expedition with this bag is how to come up with an excuse to get the folks
in the other tent to make the coffee. (As the CWM also has a hidden draft tube
pocket for the alarm.)
