Glenn
Porzak’s first two attempts at reaching the summit of Mt. Everest were
shadowed by storms and ferocious winds. Causing him to return home to Boulder,
CO in 1981 and 1989 with his dreams not yet fulfilled. In 1990 he was ready to
try again, this time with 8 friends on a dual mission of not only climbing
Everest but to also climbing Lhotse, which no American had yet to climb.
Early
April attempts were met with heavy winds, on the fifth
attempt the winds reached up to 140mph. However, on May
9th the storm broke and under clear skies Glenn left
camp at 11pm. The night was clear and illuminated due to
an electrical storm over the plains of India. He reached
the summit at 7:15. The climb up Lhotse was also a
success.
Glen has climbed the highest
peaks on all seven continents. He is the first known person to have climbed
the 100 highest peaks Rocky Mountain National Park, and has climbed all 54 of
Colorado’s 14,000 ft. peaks. Glen is a partner at a Boulder Law firm and
specializes in Environmental Law.
