When a boy takes up climbing at the age
of six you can reasonably expect that he has a certain
amount of innate drive, ambition and natural ability.
Such it was with Peter Habeler.
Mayrhofen Austria in 1942 he was a certified mountain guide and skiing
instructor by the age of 21. Beginning the mid 60ís he and climbing partner
Reinhold Messner assaulted the mountaineering world with an impressive series
of climbs. Together they made the first ascent of Yerupaja Chico in South
America (1969), and the North face of Eiger in a record 10 hours (1974), following that was Hidden Peak via a new route (1975).
challenge in mountaineering came in May, 1978 when Habeler and Messner made
the first oxygenless ascent of Everest.
Habeler returned to Mount Everest in 2000 as part of the
Mountain Madness team, however fluid in his lungs prevented him from making
the summit. Habeler has also climbed the 8,000 meter peaks of Cho Oyo,
Kangchenjunga and Nanga Parbat. He currently runs an alpine and ski school in
Digital Altimeter, Barometer, Compass and Thermometer. Time/Date/Alarms.
