North Side Everest Expedition on 2001. She had previously summitted
Cho Oyu with Russ in 2000. Other mountaineering experience
includes summits of: Mustagh-Ata, China~ ski descent(1998),
Mt. McKinley, Aconcagua, Mt. Elbrus, Ecuador's
volcanoes, Kilimanjaro, all 54 of Colorado's 14,000ft peaks.
She lived in the French Alps for several seasons where she
skiied, climbed and learned to paraglide.
Ellen lives
in Vail, Colorado, where she works in athletic facility. Her
background is as a sponsored competitive athlete during the
last 15 years, competing internationally. Her first trip to
Tibet was in 1993, when she qualified to run Fila's
SkyMarathon, staged at 14,000ft on the Tibetan plateau. As
well as participating in mountain running, snowshoeing,
mountain
biking, and Nordic skiing competitions, she has competed in
long multi-day, multi-discipline races including the
Eco-Challenge in Patagonia and Borneo, and The Mild-Seven
Outdoor Challenge in Western China. Several times teamed up
with Himalayan/Everest guide Andy Lapkass, another endurance
athlete.
Mountain
climbing, however, provides Ellen with a non-competitive
arena, where she simply finds pleasure in the beauty of
Nature.
