Ang Lhakpa Sherpa summited Everest on
May 5th, 1988 via the standard north east ridge route and
descended via the
standard south east ridge route while on the China-Japan-Nepal Friendship
Expedition. His traverse along with a Japanese and a Chinese
climber were the first summits from the large China-Japan-Nepal Friendship
Expedition. He was born in 1963 and was from Khumjung, Solukhumbu.
He summited Everest a second time on May 24th, 1989 on the
American expedition led by
Pete
Athans. Sadly he died on a winter attempt on Cho Oyu on
Christmas day 1989.
