The Sherpas of Everest Series: Pemba Nurbu Sherpa

Pemba Nurbu Sherpa, 37 (as of May, 2003), lives with his wife and two children, a son and daughter, in the high mountain village of Namche Bazaar. He has summitted Mt. Everest twice, in 1998 (May 20,1998) and then again in 2000 (May 24, 2000), when he served as the Environmental Cleanup Team Sirdar. .

Pemba has been on the last four of Bob Hoffman's Everest expeditions, and is a valued member of the team - always with a ready smile and helping hand

When not climbing Everest, Pemba leads treks in many areas of Nepal. Pemba's mountaineering jobs enable him to send his children to Kathmandu for their education since schools are so scarce in the Khumbu (Everest) area of Nepal. He hopes that this commemorative expedition with help bring attention to the need for better schools for Sherpa children in the mountain regions where they live, close to their homes and families.
