Expedition'.
Residencia de Deportistas del CAR LaCartuja
Residencia de Deportistas de La Cartuja, the
'Karakorum 8,000 Andalucia 2005 Expedition' will be officially presented.
This expedition is sponsored by Consejería de Turismo,
Comercio y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía (Tourism, Comerce and Sports
Council of the City of Andalucia).
The General Director of Sports Activities and Promotion of
the Council, Juan de la Cruz Vásquez, will attend, as well as José Durán,
president of the Andalucian Mountain Climbing Federation
and the six Andalucian climbers, members of the expedition: Manuel González
Díaz and Pedro Soto Guerrero, from Malaga, Rafael Rodríguez Rubio, Javier Vera
Rincón and Jorge Vásquez Corripio from Sevilla, and
Manuel Salazar Rincón from Jerez. José Ramón Carmona
Quesada, from Granada, will not be able to attend because of work compromises.
The sportsmen plan to ascend G1 first for its most technical
appeal compared to G2, where they will attempt to climb via the normal route,
although they don't discard the possibility ascending via the French route.
The 'Karakorum 8,000 Andalucia 2005 Expedition', organized
by the Andalucian Mountain Climbing Federation is made by seven Andalucians
that will try to ascend two eight-thousands consecutively for the first time
for an expedition of our community. The ascents will take place between June
18 and August 21 in Gasherbrum I (G1), 8,068 meters, and Gasherbrum II (G2) or
Hidden Peak, 8,035 meters, in the Karakorum mountain sierra of the Himalayas,
two eight-thousands that have not been climbed by any Andalucian climber.

CONSECUTIVE EIGHT-THOUSANDS
The
'Karakorum 8,000 Andalucía 2005' Expedition will attempt the summits of
Gasherbrum I (8,069 m) and Hidden Peak (8,035 m)
Seven
Andalucian climbers will attempt to climb two consecutive eight-thousands for
the first time for an expedition of our community. The members of the
'Karakorum 8,000 Andalucía 2005' Expedition will attempt during the first two
weeks of August to climb Gasherbrum I (G1), 8,068 m., and Gasherbrum II (G2)
or Hidden Peak, 8,035 m., in the Karakorum mountain system, to the Northeast
of the Himalayas.
This
project, which is sponsored by Consejería de Turismo, Comercio y Deporte,
which will take place between June 18 and August 21, has as a goal to climb
two eight-thousands in the same season, which has not been done by any
Andalucian climber.
The
climbers plan to ascent G1 first because of its technical interest, and they
will try to climb by the normal route, although they can't discard the French
route. Also, the expeditioneers have organized a trekking for a group of ten
climbers, who will go with them up to the base of the mountains and will share
with them the days previous to an expedition of these characteristics, like
the approach to Base Camp and the preparations.
The

Mountain Federation, is made by seven Andalucian climbers: Manuel Gonzalez
