Latest on Rescue on Muztagh - Mr. Dejan Miskovic Rescue

Copyright© Billy Pierson

(1500 hrs local - 27 Aug) Persistent inclement weather is causing delay in launch of rescue effort. It is not likely that the weather will open today. (0635 hrs local - 27 Aug) We checked up this morning with Mr. Ales at BC Mustagh on who confirmed inclement weather on the mountain and Baltoro. The helicopters are at high alert and rescue will be launch as soon as it opens up. (1730 hrs local - 26 Aug)

Earlier: (1730 hrs local - 26 Aug) Two helicopters sent to pickup 3 Slovenian Climbers from K7 B.C and drop them at Muztagh B.C have returned to Skardu after completing the job. They tried to pickup Mr. Miskovic with a sling but could not do it as very strong wind failed the attempt. The rescue will be attempted tomorrow morning subject to weather. (1445 hours - 26 Aug) As per advise of the local Tour Operator in consultation with the Slovenian two helicopters left Skardu for K7 to pickup 3 Slovenian Mountaineers and try to drop them at Muztagh BC. These climbers will then go up the mountain to assist Mr. Miskovic to come down to below 6000 m from where he can be evacuated by the helicopters. The helicopters will also try to drop supplies on him, if possible. (1515 hours - 25 Aug) As per a telephonic call from Slovenia, one member of this expedition has died while another is trying to get down to 5000m for helicopter rescue. Source askari aviation
