Four Mt.
Everest Summiteers were presented Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Medal amidst a
special function organized in Stuttgart, Germany on 18 January 2004. Mr. Ang
Tshering Sherpa, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) conferred
the Plaque with Khada and Nepali Caps to the Mt. Everest Summiteers. The
program coinciding with Nepal’s participation in CMT 2004 from January 17-25,
2004 was jointly organized by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Nepal
Tourism Board, Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI) and Royal
Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart, Germany.

Earlier, Mr. Ang Tshering Shepra addressing the gathering of about 300 top
media personnel and trade briefed the objectives of the program. He said that
the program was organized to honor those Mt. Everest Summiteers who could not
make it during the special function organized in Kathmandu in May 29, 2003. He
also informed the gathering about the Mt. Cho-Oyo Golden Jubilee Celebration
in Nepal from October 17-19 this year and invited to all interested to Nepal
to be a part of it.
Interestingly, the Mt. Everest Summiteers also recalled their exciting
experiences while making to the top of Mount Everest.
On the occasion, a special fifteen minute power point presentation was shown
which highlighted the major activities taken place during Mt. Everest Golden
Jubilee Celebration in Kathmandu in May last year.
On the same occasion, Mr. Wolfgang Nairz, a famous Austrian Mountaineer made a
power point presentation on his team’s ascent to the top of Mt. Cho-Oyo in
October 1954. Mr. Nairz is the first Austrian Mountaineer to scale Mt. Everest
and the first Mountaineer to make to the top of Mt. Cho-Oyo. Mr. Nairz is also
a coordinator from Austrian side for Mt. Cho-Oyo Golden Jubilee Celebration.
Famous mountaineer and the first person to climb all eight thousand meters
high peaks Mr. Reinhold Messner who was the guest speaker in the program said,
“In difficult times, Nepal should not be forgotten. While Nepal is facing the
most difficult times in its history, Nepalese Mountains should not be avoided
and should be explored more while preserving the wilderness and graciousness
of them. The Nepalese Mountain tourism holds a great potential and we should
always respect the essence of it." Indicating the commercialization in the
mountaineering in Nepal, he said, “We should not try to change the Nepalese
Mountains rather the Mountains should change us.”
Further, on the same occasion, Mr. Sherpa also gave away the Token of Love
from NMA to the following persons and organizations who made invaluable
contribution to make the Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration held in May
last year a grand success:

Ms. Ann-Katrin Bauknecht, Royal Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart in
Germany rendered her great contribution to make the program a great success.
Being the moderator during the program, she made an excellent performance to
run the program smoothly.
Mr. Bikrum Pandey, Vice President II, Nepal Mountaineering Association Mr.
Senon D Lama, Secretary, NGCCI and Mr. Rohini P Khanal, Officer, Marketing and
Promotion of NTB along with Nepalese private participants in CMT 2004 were
also present on the occasion.
Nepal’s participation in CMT 2004 this year is jointly organized by Nepal
Tourism Board (NTB), Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI) and
Royal Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart with the support of GTZ. Four
Nepalese Private participants and one German Tour Operator are exhibiting in
the show under the leadership of organizers which will run till January 25,
2004. The exhibitors are:
