Ayumi Nozawai, 39, leader of the Japanese expedition who was climbing the 7140
meters high Himlung Himal has died in an avalanche, according to the Ministry
of Tourism. The avalanche between camp 1 and camp 2 killed Ayumi on October
Ayumi was the leader of the 4 member
Japanese expedition, Leader of "Team Peri Himal 2003". Two other climbers dug themselves
out .... The team was permitted to climb 7140 meter high
Mt. Himjung from west face for the period of 60 days from 9th September 2003.
Ayumi was a very succesful climber with several summits to
his credit over the years, including G1. Other expeditions include Kula Kangri
where Ayumi Nozawai attempted a new route reaching 6750 meter on the North
ridge before turning around due to an avalanche threat. In 2001 he was
