After leading a group of
people with disabilities to the base camp of Mt. Everest, Gary Guller summited
Mt. Everest on May 23, 2003, becoming the only person with one arm to ever
scale the world’s highest peak. This accomplishment alone speaks of his
integrity, perseverance and ability to motivate and inspire those around him
to accomplish their dreams and to reach their full potential.
Since that day Gary has made
it his goal to inspire others with his story. From large companies like IBM,
Toyota, American Express, Freightliner, to groups that have a goal to
encourage people with disabilities like AIM Independent Living Center, POTA -
Pennsylvania Occupational Therapists Association, Lone Star Paralysis
Foundation, Inclusion Works Training Consortium, AIM Independent Living
Center and The Arc of Jacksonville.
Gary grew up in the
Southeastern United States and has spent much of his life climbing and
exploring the world, including over 35 trips to the Himalayas. He is active in
his local community and is known throughout the world for his passion for
exploration.
Gary lost the use of his arm
in a mountaineering accident just as he had found his life's passion: alpine
climbing. He stunned a medical team at Duke University by asking to have his
paralyzed arm amputated. After serious introspection, Gary began climbing
again, surmounting the barriers that stood in the way of realizing his dreams
to explore. He has inspired others ever since to continue onward and upward.
His down-to-earth speaking
style reaches into the souls of his audience as he tells how his experiences
have shaped his philosophy of “Anything is Possible”. He encourages others to
look deep into themselves, motivating them to set goals to maximize their
potential, placing fear and doubts aside and pushing through the barriers to
success in business and in life.
His images, stories and
affable nature inspire others to look deep within to accomplish more in all
areas of life. Gary speaks from his heart about what he has learned over the
past 20 years of adventures. He has certainly earned the right. From an early
age, Gary has inspired countless people to achieve their maximum potential and
to pursue their dreams and goals. He has challenged both children and adults
to reach beyond what they perceive as their limitations and to succeed.
