Mingma Gelu to attempt speed record on Elbrus

On July, 19 at 8:00 Mingma Gelu Sherpa (25 years, Everest summiter) has added in his collection the highest top of Europe (5642 m). With him the top was reached by his friends: Alexander Abramov, Alexander Fedorovsky and Lyudmila Korobeshko.  The ascent has passed in warm, friendly atmosphere, despite of 15- degree-frost and a strong wind. Numerous climbers with pleasure were photographed with Mingma. Nikolay Cherny has specially risen on the Refuge to meet the old friend with whom this year worked together on the Everest. Mingma plans to stay 3 weeks in the Elbrus region and to establish a new record of a high-speed climb on Elbrus.

   Mingma said that he will waiting for representatives of the Kabardino-Balkaria republic with reciprocal visit to Himalaya.   Mingma Gelu Sherpa was a Sirdar in "7 Summits club" Everest 2005   expedition. Mingma Gelu Sherpa is Lakpa Sherpa brother, the only woman to have summited Everest 5 times. His younger sister Summited Everest at 15! In 2003 and 2004 Mingma Gelu summited with George and Lakpa before becoming the sirdar for Alexander Abramov team in 2005.
