High Angle Media, Inc. is
producing a half hour documentary in cooperation with Dr. Charles Houston, a
pioneering scholar in the fields of mountain medicine and altitude sickness.
The documentary will air as an episode of High Angle Media's "Backcountry TV,"
on the New England Sports Network and consists of Dr. Houston's historic
footage captured during the 1938 and 1953 American expeditions to K2, the
second highest mountain in the world. The brave story and events of the 1953
expedition remain a touchstone in the history of mountaineering, and the most
renowned attempt on the 28,250 foot mountain, held as the most difficult and
one of the deadliest climbs in the world. The program marks the first time in
history that the entire story using the expedition's footage will be broadcast
on television. "The members of the 1953 American Expedition to K2 have long
been hailed as heroes in mountaineering - though they don't see themselves as
such. It is our privilege to be honoring the memory of the team members that
have since passed, and we are especially pleased to be presenting the full
story for the first time on television," commented High Angle Media Producer
Adam DesLauriers.
