Reinhold Messner's brother found on Nanga Parbat Update with pictures of the Boot

Messner held his press conference in Pakistan where he described the finding of his brother's remains on Nanga Parbat. The news conference at Marriott hotel, Islamabad to reveal the facts, Prof. Hipp Rudoff assisted Mr. Messner.

As we understood it from the press conference, Abdul Manan and Fazal Haq again found the remain of Messner brother at an altitude of 4300m on 17 July while they were guiding a International expedition. They forward this information to Liver Khan and Samandar Khan who further forward this information to Messner, and showed these remains to Messner on 29 July when he was in Pakistan with a trekking group. He confirmed the remains belongs to his brother from the items like the leather shoe, front notes, color of the trousers. The latest samples of remains are sent to Germany for further DNA.

While answering questions Messner said that now this chapter should be closed. He further told that next year his all family including children will visit the site and make a memorial. He also  answered that the Korean found note at the top of Nanga Parbat this year was left by him, to prove that he climbed and made the summit. The Korean team has invited Messner to come Korea where they will present the note to him in a ceremony.

He also announced of making a school in Diamer Area but locals there is need of a road from Halala to Sar which is about 15km and a need of hospital for women.

He also inform the media that there is no one representing him in Pakistan as mentioned by some web news.

Earlier Update: The mainstream Austrian media and the Austrian national radio station (ORF) has confirmed the finding of Günther Messner. The remains of Reinhold Messner's brother, Guenther Messner, have been found on Nanga Parbat. Guenther Messner disappeared after summiting the mountain in 1970.  'I recognized the shoes and the jacket of my brother', said Messner is in Pakistan. Guenther Messner body was apparently discovered by other climbers.

Reinhold Messner 1970 climbed Nanga Parbat (8125m) with his younger brother Gunther, summitting via the Rupal Face, but then traversing the mountain and descending via the Diamir Flank. Guenther disappeared. Messner's climbing partners, Max von Kienlin and Hans Saler doubted Reinhold's version of his brothers death in books they published. They spoke of a man so possessed with climbing, and with so much diseased ambition, that he was on the verge of negligence. Messner in turn blamed his climbing partners for not looking for Guenther...

Climber, writer, photographer and European parliamentarian, Reinhold Messner was born in Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy, on 17th September 1944. He grew up in the Villnöss Valley in the Dolomites and later studied at the University of Padua.

He has been one of the world’s most outstanding mountaineers for twenty years. In the course of about one hundred trips in the mountains he has chalked up many first ascents and was the first to climb all the world’s 8000-metre peaks. He lectures throughout the world, makes documentary films, contributes to well-known specialist magazines and supports the preservation of the last wildernesses.

Contrary to modern adventure performers, Reinhold Messner never went after records; instead, he is interested in being exposed to nature in landscapes hardly touched by man, and in travelling with a minimum of equipment. He followed Mummery's "by fair means" on Nanga Parbat, Nansen's "call of the north" to the ice packs of the Arctic and crossed the Antarctic via the South Pole after an idea by Shackleton. Opposing his travelling on foot to the possibilities the age of communication has to offer, he does without any expansion bolts, oxygen masks and satellite phones - an anachronism, true, but one that preserves an inexhaustible source of experience in the wilderness.

He has written more than 40 books, which have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Between his journeys he lives in Juval Castle in South Tyrol where he runs a museum containing a considerable collection of Tibetan art, and a hill farm using organic methods. In addition, he continues to write books and develop museum projects.

On Everest Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler were the first to summit without the use of bottled oxygen. Reinhold Messner was the first, and many will argue the only, to ever solo Everest on Aug 20, 1980 via the North Col/North Face.
