Ang Tshering Sherpa reports in from Nepal

Dear EverestNews.com,  Namaste and warm greetings from Nepal .

I am grateful for your support and encouragement in the past years for my family and I.

I am very happy to inform you that my son, Dawa Steven, has been awarded the following for initiating and organizing the successful Eco Everest Expedition 2008:

1.  The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) and the International Rangers Federation (IRF) selected Dawa Steven Sherpa as one of the Top Five Young Conservationists in the world for 2008.

2.  The UIAA has awarded him with the Award for contributions to UIAA for efforts to promote conservation ethics in the mountains and to draw international attention to the high risk in the Khumbu due to climate change.

3.  Dawa Steven has also been awarded with the prestigious Special Achievement Award from the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation for his double summit of both Everest and Lhotse and for his Environmental initiatives in 2008 Spring.

4. The UIAA has nominated Dawa Steven Sherpa for the International Olympic Committee Environmental Award, which recognizes and encourages the implementation of good environmental practices in the field of sport.  The UIAA believes that the work done by Dawa Stephen Sherpa, before, during and after his Eco Everest Expedition 2008, is worth international recognition.

I want to take this opportunity to wish and your family a Very Happy New year and look forward to your support and good wishes in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Ang Tshering Sherpa
