ANTARCTICA 2008. THE FIRST GROUP 7 SUMMITS
CLUB MOVED TO THE CAMP ONE.
30 November team leading by Alexander Abramov
successfully got to the white continent after two days of waiting flying
weather. They stayed at the Patriot Hills but next day they visited the South
Pole, where they spent several exciting hours. They viewed the American
station Amudsen-Scott and then returned to the camp at the Patriot Hills.
2 December the group flew to the base camp of Mount Vinson and landed there by
the evening. Next day they moved from the base camp to the camp one, on 2800
meters. It’s snowing in the area of Mount Vinson now, all traces are covered.
The team has to make way - it affects their speed distinctly. In addition,
there aren’t other groups on the mountain now.
At the same time the second group 7 Summits Club under the leadership of
Sergei Kofanov has met in Punta Arenas. But the plane could not land at
Patriot Hills because of the wind storm. So they are waiting when the weather
would allow them to fly to Antarctica.
