The Spirit of Singapore Expedition 2009 has just returned from the Tien
Shan mountains in the Kyrgyzstan Republic, having scaled two virgin 4000-metre
summits and a virgin 5000-metre summit. The latter is the highest unclimbed
peak yet to be summitted by any SouthEast Asian team. The team comprised Grant
Rawlinson, Mohd Rozani bin Maarof, and David Lim
In the 2 -week climbing period, the three-man team faced just four days of
good weather with the balance of the days being very mixed conditions
including 6 days where it snowed constantly.

Based at a 3950m basecamp on the upper Mushketova Glacier in the
Kyrgyzstan Central Tien Shan range, the team explored and then launched a
series of attempts on the peaks. Kongsberg Peak was a snowy traverse;
Resilience Peak involved some 3rd class scrambling on an airy ridge to a
snowy top, and Majulah Peak was climbing on a broad snow ridge of up to 50
degrees
In 2005, the Maccoffee Tien Shan Expedition saw three new peaks named:
Singapura I, Temasek and Ong Teng Cheong Peaks.
