The fastest Eiger North Face, Swiss speed climber Ueli Steck, will be
attempting to summit three 8000m mountains in one season, Shisapagma south
face, Cho Oyu and Everest, all from the Tibet side. Ueli won the “Piolet
d’Or” in 2005 for his extraordinary achievements in alpinism. Prior to his
departure to Tibet he had successfully climbed Lhobuche and Cholatse with
Freddie Wilkinson. They climbed Cholatse North face which is considered one
of the most difficult trekking peaks in Nepal. Ueli has climbed Mt. Makalu
and Ghasherbrum II.
In the same expedition, Don Bowie from the USA will also be attempting to
summit the three peaks along with Ueli. Don has also climbed K2 and
Ghasherbrum I. Niklas Hallstrom from Sweden will be attempting Shishapangma
South Face and Everest in the same season with the same team. They are being
supported at the base camp by Robert Frost from USA and Alfred Widmer from
Switzerland .
The team left for the Chinese border on Sunday the 10th April. Asian
