Smokey and the Skinny Jean Bandit
We all enjoyed a great summit of Rainier! It was very pleasant and warm but a
bit smokey from all the wildfires. Special props to AAI's own Phil Collins who
wore some hipster blue jeans to the top. Ben and I were sure proud of him.
Headed down to Muir and the Paradise...celebration lunch will top off a great

"I was here first"
Have not yet managed to "capture" the exquisite wildlife shots that $eths
group managed but I will see what I can come up with on my last climb next
weekend. Regardless of our lack of the cascadian fox sightings it is my
pleasure to report the whole group is Safely at Ingraham flats and doing
extremely well. Today following a relaxed bacon, eggs and blueberry pancake
breakfast we completed a snow school which equipped us with the skills that
allow us to be safely guided on the upper mountain. For September it does not
get any better ,it is absolutely beautiful and we are all looking forward to
the climb ahead . I will keep you posted of progress. $tu

Up in Club Muir
We had an awesome trip up the snowfield and a great dinner last night.
Everyone established what their "entrance song" would be while feasting on an
incredible breakfast. The group is currently learning some mountain climbing
skills that will help us ascend Mount Rainier safely and efficiently! We will
check in with everyone tomorrow. -$eth

3-day Rainier all at Muir
The Sept. 5-7 3-day climbers all reached Camp Muir yesterday and enjoyed
beautiful views from 10,000 feet. This morning the team will work on crampon
use, rope-team travel, and self-arrest practice before moving up to Ingraham
Flats. The forecast calls for sunny skies and relatively mild winds on the
upper mountain for the next few days, and we wish the team the best on their

13-day course checks in
The August 25-Sept.6th 13-day course folks are having a great time and
enjoying beautiful late-summer weather. Michael Horst called to check in
yesterday, and said that they have been 100% successful on everything they've
attempted to climb, including Mt. Shuksan during the early part of the course,
as well as Cutthroat Peak, Liberty Bell, and the South Early Winter Spire. The
group is now spending the remaining days back in the North Cascades, with a
plan to attempt Sahale Peak via the Sahale Arm. Best of luck to the team on
their final objective of the course!

Eat well to climb well. Guides Nick, Sam, and Dylan prepare a feast of bacon,
eggs, and blueberry pancakes to power the team through snow school and up to
high camp. The weather is terrific and we are excited to move up the mountain.
Aug. 28-30 3-day Climb
The 3-day team had surprisingly fantastic weather, unlike what the weather
forecast predicted! The team enjoyed great views during the training day at
Camp Muir before moving up to Ingraham Flats. Three climbers made the summit,
with lighter winds than expected at the top. All are safely down and headed
back to Seattle.
August 26-28 Rainier Team
The team has successfully moved to high camp with everyone feeling strong and
is currently resting up for a summit bid early tomorrow morning. High winds
are forecasted, but right now, we're enjoying sunny skies and only a light
breeze. We'll see what tomorrow brings!
August 26 Rainier Trip at CampMuir
All our group arrived and had a great burrito meal! Thank you Dylan. We
witnessed a beautiful lenticular cloud as we hiked up which dissipated as we
got up to Camp Muir. It's still a bit breezy up here, but we are looking
forward the move to The Flats, our high camp.

6-day course enjoying Mt. Shuksan
Eitan Green called in to say he and Matt Nightengale are having a great time
with the group on the Aug. 19-24 6-day course. They are up on Mt. Shuksan
practicing crampon technique, movement on a rope team on glaciated terrain,
crevasse rescue, knots, and other skills that will enable them to safely
attempt Mt. Shuksan before the end of the course.
Aug. 20-22 3DM Summits!
Dave Heinbach just checked in after a successful summit climb on the
Disappointment Cleaver route. He says they had a fun wind event at high camp
last night, but things calmed down and they were able to climb in fairly calm
conditions. The team is heading out and will be back in Seattle this evening.
August 18-20 Muir
Three teams topped out on the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning. Light
wind, cooler temps and a beautiful sunrise met the climbers.
